if you need strategies then you need to read the sticky in the mesmer section, as for builds your best bet is to check pvxwiki, use that as a guideline.

Well if that's the way you want to play your game, go ahead. There's plenty of builds in places like pvxwiki.

I'm personally more partial to taking the slow approach, learning the nuances of the play style and trying to apply what I learn to the game.

It's important when learning a new profession to play it for a while to see how it works. A mesmer shouldn't be played like an ele for instance, you don't just rush in. It takes patience and timing.

It's admirable that you're creating one of each profession, but in the medium term you'll probably focus on one or two at a time, as there's just s much to see and do.

My advice would be at least on your first run through to play as much as you can with one character, maybe dip your toe in the water of others a while but find what works for yourself. Don't rush, cos you'll miss alot of the good stuff simply trying to acquire that elite armour.

For the most part, it's only your elite that changes in the common Domination bar for PvP. This is mainly speaking from a GvG point of view, though, and I'm not completely up-to-date with the meta, so don't take my word 100%.

Diversion
Shame
Shatter Enchantment
Drain Enchantment
Power Leak
Power Drain
-Elite-
-Res-

The elite is often Energy Surge, Power Block and Visions of Regret.
The res is often Flesh of my Flesh.

For PvE? If you're looking for efficiency, there are only a few skills that would be useful to an extent; single target shut down is rarely effective unless it makes a major impact (for example, daze allows every party member to interrupt). Cry of Frustration, Cry of Pain, Blackout and Arcane Conundrum are these skills. I don't necessarily touch the on-attack skills, but I guess Empathy, VoR and Backfire could be quite strong in the PvE enviroment. Clumsiness and Wandering Eye are also pretty good.
